Accessibility
What we do about accessibility, where this site still falls short, and how to report a barrier.
We want this website to be usable: with a screen reader, with the keyboard alone, at high magnification, without a mouse.
Nothing obliges us to. Dekkode GmbH builds software for businesses; the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) covers services aimed at consumers, and the BITV covers public bodies. We hold ourselves to the standard anyway, because we build software other people have to use.
Our benchmark is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA and the European standard EN 301 549.
This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA.
That rests on a self-assessment carried out in September 2026: we reviewed the site's templates in the source and tested them with automated tools. There was no external audit.
What we found is listed below — all of it, including the awkward parts.
Known barriers
- Contrast. Some body text and the error messages in forms fall below the required 4.5:1 ratio.
- Visible focus. Custom checkboxes and radio buttons do not show where the keyboard is.
- Keyboard operation. Menus cannot be closed with Escape. The image gallery cannot be fully operated from the keyboard.
- Alternative text. One image on the project overviews has no alt text at all. Elsewhere the alt text repeats the heading instead of describing the image.
- Video. Embedded videos start on their own and have no captions, no transcript and no controls to stop them.
- Skip link. There is no "skip to content" link to get past the navigation.
- Labels. The search field in the header and the newsletter field have no visible label.
- Markup. In a few lists and tab sets the ARIA markup does not follow the specification.
- Motion. Not every animation respects the "reduce motion" system setting.
- Third-party content. The captcha (Google reCAPTCHA), the chat (Chatwoot) and the cookie notice (Klaro) are not ours. We have only limited influence on their accessibility.
What we are doing
We are working through these as part of ongoing development, starting with the ones that shut people out entirely: missing focus, keyboard operation, alternative text.
A report from you moves an item up the list. We treat it as a bug report.
